These are some more of the fill in pages I've had to colour recently on the DeathStroke series from DC. I was contacted by Juan Fernandez , who was under the gun at the last minute (what colourist hasn't experienced that eh?!), needed someone to ghost for him over a few pages, of course I said yes
Pencils by Eduardo Pansica
Inks by Mariah Benes
Flats by Ludwig Olimba (flats were provided from Juan)
Colours by me (well, the technical aspect of it was anyway, palette and scheme are Juan's really).
You can see a sample of the pages Juan did over at his DA, these are what I had to use as reference...
awesome color work--and can I just say I think it's really cool how great it is to see you do more sequential work? I mean, your variants and covers are awesome, but I really enjoy your actual panel-to-panel coloring the most.
im digging this series and take on slade...but christ! how many times is his armor going to change?! dc has been so inconsistent with the looks in the new 52. especially with slade and supermans "battle armor". and yes Nth metal changes but i mean come on lol . but the colors are fantastic!
Thanks dude. Heh, I hear ya... but I have to say, working on regular books, you see a shit ton of costume mistakes in all titles, Marvel, DC, IDW... they all have them in most issues. Its usually just down to the artist to try and get that right, as an Editor can miss that sort of stuff easily. The colourist and inker tend to pick up on those mistakes most I would guess (I do anyway, and I try and fix them if i'm allowed and have time). Its just the speed that all involved are meant to work at sometimes means that the little things get glossed over and only found out about in the hands of a reader, usually when its too late. The Snake Eyes books from IDW I work on, costumes would change all the time, webbing and pockets and weaopns would seemingly disappear at times, to reappear later on out of no-where, and the characters would look vastly different from title to title due to different artists and different editors... I would imagine its very difficult to keep track of all the versions of a character going out to print, at DC I would assume they have at least 10 editors trying to organise and keep it all tidy, got to give them some slack for the fact they get it as tight as they do... or else Slade might look like Nightwing in a few issues haha
yea i get the speed and turn around, but he went from almost a full War Machine armor to his normal old school look which is fantastic. but he still talks about the Nth. guess 25 years of collecting and being a artist/inker myself it gets to me. and if he does end up looking like nightwing, at least give him the baby blue and not red chest piece lol!
