well claremont wrote him out in like 81, and brought him back sporadically over the years. in the mid 90s Lobdel and Nicieza brought him back and used him as a supporting character, then he ended up the headmaster of Generation X.
but yea...he was one of those characters people had problems using him; but when written right he was a bad ass.

my favorite is his part in the phalanex covenant, where he, sabertooth, emma frost and jubilee try to save the (then) new generation of mutants from an alien menace.
im only 31 so i missed allot of his early stuff (he debuted around 1967). and unfortunately i temporarily got out of comics in the mid 90s due to dating, so i did not read much of Gen X. But yea for me when he cuts lose in covenant it is bad ass.
